Procedure for Purchasing Goats:
If you would like to be put on my list for 2021 kids, this is how it works:
- "The List" Contact me as early as possible to be placed on "The List". In the spring (kidding season), When you find the animals you decide to buy, we usually ask a 50% deposit to hold them for you. That is the first exchange of money - there is no commitment until you choose your animals. This down payment is a NON-refundable deposit. We have not yet determined our pricing for spring kids next year (a lot of it will depend on feed costs) Payment will need to be received within two weeks of the request, or the kid will be offered to the next person on the list. (If this happens to you, I will place your name at the bottom of the list. So it does not necessarily mean you won't be able to get lambs, but it does decrease your odds.)
- Registration All kids purchased with come with an ABGA application unless older and already registered then doe/buck will come with papers, it will be responsibility to send them in (For more information about the registry, see the "Contact Us" page.)
- Health Issues All kids will be current with their CD&T vaccinations. They will have a scrapie tag in an ear for identification and to meet transporting requirements. They will be dewormed and their hooves will be trimmed.
- Transportation If they are to be transported across state lines, the kids will need a veterinarian exam and health certificate. I will have this done and the fee will be added to the cost of the kid, any additional required testing specific to your state must be communicated with me, so as I get those testings done at the same time as the veterinarian exam this too is the responsibility of the buyer at the buyer's expense. If you are not sure which tests are required to import goats to your state, please ask your local veterinarian. Click here for a website that also may be helpful with state to state transportation. Typically, the health certificate is only good for 30 days so if your plans change to pick up your kid, you will be responsible for paying for another exam if that is necessary. If transporting in the back of a pickup, a cover over the pen (such as a tarp) is needed to provide shade from the sun and shelter from the wind.
- Timing We time our kidding to start around the first of February. (with some scragglers) Since we like to give our kids the best opportunity for a healthy, happy, natural start in life, we leave them with their mothers until they are at least 12 weeks of age (weaning age). Most kids leave for their new homes in June & July with the exceptions of the kids my children decide to show at their local, county and state shows, those will leave around the end of August, middle of September.
- Bottle kids I do not sell bottle kids before they are 12 weeks old. (exceptions to every rule) Although they are very labor-intensive to raise, I would rather have a healthy 12-16 week-old leave here for their new home, than a broken-hearted person calling me with tragic news. If you want a kid that has been a bottle baby, that may be possible, but the kid will not have been raised as a "house pet" if we can keep from it, there are times when they will have to be raised in home but they will be integrated back in with the herd.
- Other Important Considerations We reserve the right to decide to not sell a kid for any reason. Since they are a flock animal, if an individual is purchased it needs to "go home" to a flock or at least one other goat. A wether (neutered male) is an ideal companion!
